The Green Corridor sites are mostly right next to Ashford’s rivers, on the flood plain of the Great Stour. A flood plain is the land around water bodies that takes on excess water in times of high rainfall. This is a crucial process which protects homes and businesses. This is particularly important because climate change will cause more extreme weather events, meaning floods could occur more frequently.

Flood plains are also important for maintaining clean water sources; and they provide wetland habitat, such as reedbeds and ponds, that support many specialist species.
