The Partnership

The Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership works closely with landowners and local communities to promote both landscape and nature conservation, and develop opportunities for appropriate access and informal recreation. It operates as a working partnership of sponsoring organisations, staff and local people. Partnership staff have many years of experience of habitat management, practical conservation, working with farmers and local communities on a wide range of projects.

Accessible Description of the Partnership Area

The partnership area covers a large section of East Kent, stretching from the north coast to the rural south west. It includes Ashford, the city of Canterbury and the surrounding towns, villages, countryside, and coastal communities.

The northern boundary follows the coastline around Herne Bay, Whitstable, and the surrounding coastal settlements. From here, the area extends inland to include Faversham to the west and continues eastwards to include Sturry, Herne, Littlebourne, and nearby villages.

The central part of the area includes Canterbury, forming the main urban hub, with major road and rail routes running through it. Surrounding Canterbury are numerous rural parishes such as Bridge, Wingham, Barham, Chartham, Petham, and Bekesbourne.

To the south and south east, the boundary stretches toward Hythe.

Further south west, the partnership area reaches rural communities around Elham, Lyminge, and the North Downs.

To the west and south west, the area includes the countryside around Ashford’s outskirts, extending through Wye, Challock, Charing, and continuing toward the border with the Tenterden district.

Overall, the partnership area includes:
