Happy World Rivers Day!
Today is a day to celebrate the rivers of the world and how lucky are we to have the Stour in East Kent- a stunning chalk river!
It’s home to a wide range of animals including some very special ones- water voles, otters, beavers, white clawed crayfish and kingfishers to name but a few! It’s crystal clear water allows us to see down into the depths to spot the fish amongst the weed or down to the gravel beds which are fantastic habitat for many species.
We celebrated the Stour on Kingsmead Field today with a family river dipping event followed by a reading of ‘Stanley the Water Vole’ by Tales from Mother Earth. We were lucky to find lots of fish which turned into the stars of the show! Pictured is a bullhead on the spoon and we believe dace in the bucket!
