Hambrook Marshes

What a productive day on Hambrook Marshes!

A couple of weeks ago, we had a corporate team from the Environment Agency help our Canterbury volunteers create a series of hibernacula. Hibernacula are underground chambers that protect reptiles from the cold throughout winter.

We used rocks, logs, bricks and brash to fill our hibernacula, once covered with soil, tiny pockets of air create perfect hiding places for reptiles such as the common lizard and slow worm!

Meanwhile, a few of the volunteers were repairing some our livestock fencing, ready for this years grazing.
