A roadside hedge gets a face-lift.
A big thankyou to our wonderful Canterbury volunteers who have been working on laying a large roadside hedge. This was a challenging task, but the results are brilliant. It will give this hedge a whole new lease of life and improve road safety.
Hedgelaying is a traditional management method, to keep hedges dense to hold livestock in fields and incidentally improve the habitat value for wildlife. A good hedge for wildlife is thick, with minimal gaps, lots of native tree species, unmanaged margins and infrequent cutting to keep the flowers and berries which are so important for feeding our wildlife.
