‘Renaturalising’ Shalmsford street Dyke
A river restoration project near Chartham has been recently completed.
By working with the Stour Internal Drainage Board and groundworks contractor Rhino, we recently ‘renaturalised’ 350m of Shalmsford Street Dyke.
Using a method known as ‘dig and dump’, an excavator moved gravels to create deeper pools, shallow ‘berms’ and a more winding shape. We’re pretty happy with how it turned out! We should start to see a wider variety of plants and water invertebrates, and possibly trout using the stream for breeding.
