Removal of invasive sycamore saplings at Bockhanger

Yesterday our lovely Ashford volunteers were working hard at Bockhanger Wood (Hatch Park). This private site is designated a SSSI and ancient woodland, where there are hundreds of pollard hornbeams that could very well be 600 years old. These gnarly old trees create such a wonderful atmosphere that it was a pleasure to help by removing invasive sycamore saplings that will take over. Some were easy to pull up root-and-all, but others needed tackling with a mattock and tree popper. It was hard work, but worth it!
