Givaudan -The Great Stour Meadow & its 20th anniversary
Givaudan and KSCP have been working together since 1999 to create and enhance habitats for wildlife in the shadow of one of Ashford’s largest factory complexes.
The site was converted from an arable field in the late 1990s. Today, as a nature reserve, it sits on the edge of Ashford beside the Great Stour River and the Givaudan factory.
The meadow lies at its centre. There are 2 ponds, 2 river bays / wetland edges, native hedges (including one lovely laid hedge) and many native trees throughout the site. In addition hibernaculum’s, barn owl boxes and insect hotels have added to its biodiversity.
KSCP regularly run educational visits to the site. KSCP working alongside the site team and with the KSCP volunteers, make this a wonderful place for wildlife and people!
Cllr Andrew Buchanan, the new portfolio holder for Environment and Land Management at Ashford Borough Council attended the 20th anniversary event, and learnt more about this kind of work, and joined in with children from Willesborough Juniors in a bit of pond dipping.
