Little Stour tree planting

Our wonderful Canterbury volunteers got stuck in at the beginning of January, planting weeping willow and Black Poplar trees along the Little Stour.

Many of our rivers have lost tree cover. Large, old trees by the river are vital habitat for wildlife, invertebrates, birds, fish and mammals. Large branches and roots in river banks and channels help the river to function properly. Removing all dead wood from rivers destroys river biodiversity and increases downstream flood risk. Cattle graze this floodplain so large guards were essential.
