Swalecliffe trees
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the tree planting at Swalecliffe in December!
Together we planted a mini Miyawaki woodland boasting over 1650 native trees from over 25 species. Each species was carefully selected by their suitability to the region and their coastal tolerance. Miyawaki is a dense, fast growing planting technique that enhances biodiversity and mitigates climate change – perfect for small sites in urban areas. We also planted several disease resistant elms, two sycamores, two small-leaved limes, created a new stretch of hedgerow beside the church, and planted a few shade giving trees near the play area.
This project was was planned by Canterbury City Council and KCC’s Kent Plan Tree, delivered by KSCP and made possible with the support of a grant from The Tree Council and Defra’s Trees Outside Woodland Fund.
