Keeping things flowing
KSCP have been working to maintain and improve urban watercourses in our partnership area. Thanks to funding from Kent County Council directed at managing watercourses not overseen by the Environment Agency or Internal Drainage Boards, we have carried out work to keep water flowing where it should and help prevent local flooding. Maintenance has included removing silt, managing vegetation, controlling Japanese knotweed and felling trees growing in watercourses.
Because of their urban locations, some of these watercourses are not exactly easy to get to, but thanks to some very experienced contractors, we’ve met the challenge of working in some awkward places. Like, for example, this watercourse at Beaver Road, Ashford, hemmed in by houses and gardens on both sides.
More work will continue in the autumn at sites in Ashford, Herne Bay and Canterbury.
